IVM

IVM is a revolutionary infertility treatment method that rules out the most widespread complication from stimulation - ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. This method is also suitable for women with contraindications for ovarian stimulation (cancer survivors, for example). The downside of this method is a lower change of conception compared to ordinary IVF.

How is IVF different from IVM?

In IVF, we take mature eggs and fertilize them. IVM involves using immature eggs and letting them mature in a special environment outside the woman’s body.

In what cases is IVM used?

IVM is used when there are health risks that prevent a woman from undergoing the full in vitro fertilization course. IVF increases estradiol concentration in the body, which is a contraindication for some women, such as thrombophilia patients. IVM is also recommended for women with contraindications for hormonal stimulation (cancer survivors, for example).

What are the risks and limitations of this procedure?

The limitations of this method are rather low chances of success and risk of chromosome imbalance in oocytes. We launched the IVM program in 2008 – bought the requisite equipment, special environments, acquired knowledge and experience, and now can use this method in clinical practice.

How effective is IVM?

This new method is still less effective than IVF. However, for a category of women this is the only chance of ever bearing a child. This is why this method is also important to our practice.
